Three years after finding the 100+ year old wood, and many years after hoping I would someday have my own shed, she is finally a reality and I love her. I can see her from my kitchen window and love seeing the dormer from our ensuite upstairs. The stained glass window in the dormer came from a 105 year old house in Vernon, BC which is one of our favourite places to visit in the summer. ...
I have a few essential items in my blogging space... most are thrifted, of course. ...
Here it is, another mantle decorating season and I still have my unsightly Canadian Tire sconces, wafer thin mantle, and the fireplace is yet to be updated. Those changes are getting closer to the top of the list though, thank goodness. My easy-on-the-budget mantle display used items I had on hand.** **With the exception the curly top white pumpkin that jumped into my cart at WalMart this morning. Who could resist it's crackly goodness and wacky stem? (The flour and sugar in my cart needed some seasonal company anyway.) I found my dad's old tackle box last month while up in their attic. I also found out that it is very hard to do a happy dance when you're in a confined space. The antlers were from the attic too and this pair were left 'au naturel' for now. The painting was a gift to a friend of the family in the early 1920's. My dad and grandfather about 1942 -- the pre turquoise tackle box era. I'm not sure who took the ph......
I wasn't planning on giving you a repeat viewing of my cupboard so soon, but when Mr. CF put the kibosh on where I'd planned to hang my latest antler project, this is what I came up with. Start with a set of 35+ year old deer antlers from your parent's attic. Add paint you already have on hand and beverage(s) of your choice. I just didn't 'get' the whole chevron thing. Maybe because it looks too much like the tire tracks left by the vehicle that drove through my wildflower bed behind my back fence (twice) this summer. I do like the ombre trend though... Attempt #1. The gradient is a bit too subtle maybe. I'll remember that for my next ombre paint project,if that day ever comes. I covered the skull with batting and found out that regular gunny sack burlap is much too thick. A WalMart fat quarter of burlap was $5, thinner, and comes in two colours. Perfect. After using the hot glue gun on a hot afternoon in th......
My turquoise room. Now that it is all tidied up I may actually MAKE something in here. Usually we are painting on the kitchen island or building something on the potting bench. It is a great place for storage and Macy says she could sit in here and read all day (and that makes me happy). I painted the walls when we moved in three summers ago; I was inspired by Alicia Paulson's so very cute sewing room. I cannot find a link to studio photos, and she has since repainted to the colour of our bedroom. I am sure the old pictures are there somewhere and when I can find a link I will add it. My tastes have changed in three years, but everything in here still makes me smile. We live in a circa 1965 split level, so this is one of the two small bedrooms on the lower level. This is what you see when you walk by. You used to see more, but I finally put a few things away. My paternal grandfather made the sewing cabinet for my mom in the seventies -- more great storage. I......
We have yet to bring up our boxes of Christmas decor, but I am really thinking this year there will be much less red and green in our midst. Everything here I had on hand, except for my recent extravagant purchase of the Merry Christmas , $3.00 at the local dollar store. We inherited this blah fireplace when we bought this home a year and a half ago. It's on our list of redo's. Not sure when it will happen, but for now, this is our fireplace with it's Canadian Tire sconces. Eeeew. Last weekend I got out the Modge Podge/Sheet Music duo. I made a pattern for the B from the font Storybook , cut it out with the jigsaw from 5/8" MDF we had on hand, and voila, our holiday B. I also got out this old set of anters from the garden shed. My father was an avid hunter and we grew up having game on the dinner table. Not a big fan, but the meat did not go to waste and I have redone a few sets of these. It is always nice to have a free source for ......
