'Twas a Month Before Christmas...

'Twas a month before Christmas,
when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The hardwood was piled by the chimney with care,

In hopes that the new floors soon would be there;

The child wasn't nestled all snug in her bed,

She was at school learning A’s to Zed’s.

And me with my camera, sans the lens cap,

Was ready for photos soon to be snapped.

When out at the mailbox there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my perch to see what was the matter.

Away to the doorway I flew like a flash,

Tore a hole in my pj pants and heard a loud crash.

The sun on the crest of the new-fallen snow

Gave the luster of diamonds to our mailman, Joe.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a box addressed to me, in the city Red Deer.

With a little old label, so neat and so slick,

I knew in a moment, it MUST be from Vic’.

Vickie a la Ranger 911

As in above and below...

(That's Vickie on the left.)

More rapid than beagles the questions they came,

I whistled and shouted, and scratched my old brain.

Now dash it all Macy, hurry home to this kitchen --

Or I’ll open it myself, I’m really just itch'n!

I ran to the porch and gave a loud call --

Run home from school, and please don’t stall!!

As dry leaves that before a hurricane fly,

I looked out my spectacles to see she was nigh,

So over to the package the both of us flew,

What was inside? We had narry a clue.

And then in a twinkling, my little goof --

Had opened the box, with tissue so poofed.

As I picked up my camera, and was turning around,

Out came Sock Monkey, with a fez for his crown!

He was not alone, Macy found a white foot,

He had just a hat for clothes, she said “Stay put”.

She ran to the Sunbeam and came right back,

There are two Doughboys? An unbelieveable fact.

Her eyes -- how they twinkled, she had a fresh query,

"How could Vickie find his brother?" said the girl so cheery,

Her happy little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And new Doughboy’s hat was as white as the snow.

You cannot imagine how much fun these are going to be...

More tissue unravelled and what is this -- teeth?

"Hee hee" I said, "they'll be PERFECT for my wreath"!

No actual photo available... nom, nom, nom.
The tissue it rattled - there was something for our bellies,

USA Chocolate Twizzlers to eat while watching the telly.

Sock Monkey was hugged, a right jolly new elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

And another surprise, a vintage dress with red!

A boy or a girl -- what a cute little quirk,

Oh the fun to have with outfits - we’ll go berserk!!

Giggling together, thinking monkey clothes,

She spotted something else for new Doughboy we suppose,

Vignette by Macy

A wee little skateboard, she gave a happy whistle,

He hopped right on and was off like a missle,

But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he zipped out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

Thanks again Vickie for all of your sweet gifts... we are lovin' 'em!
Macy has decided that he/she is named Will and Wilhelmina. New Doughboy has settled right in with Old Doughboy and Remy. We anticipate some holiday antics. :)

I am happy to report that the rooms are painted, floors are down, furniture is moved back and the TV even works in it's new location. Replacing the baseboards and refacing the fireplace are next. I'm looking forward to at least a little time to get ready for Christmas -- and recover. :) Hope your holiday preparations have been fun and are on schedule! Thanks for visiting!

  3. Had I known, I would have dressed for the occasion!!! Hehehe. I had no idea you were such a poet!

Very fun post, Tracy, and I'm glad you had some fun in the midst of your major remodel. I see Wilhelmina already opened up her gifts from an admirer? That's some bling! I suppose when you're showing that much leg, the suitors are lining up in droves!

I eagerly await the new adventures of DB, Remy and little bro. Thanks for the laugh. :@

I'm feeling a little bad that old Doughboy has to be called, well *old*, perhaps Macy can come up with something like Doughboy the First or something. As far as the monkey......
