DIY Valentine Chicken Feed Decor

Who doesn't need chicken Valentine decor in their kitchen?? I sure did! My grandparents, above, had chickens on their farm and one of my earliest memories is the hens scattering when we drove into the yard in the 1960's. It's also my grandmother tied onto the homespun heart.

You will find this label in set #124 in my shop (click on the image below to find it). I printed the label on new pre-washed muslin and sewed a simple feed sack. I use the freezer paper method, my ink jet printer and new, well pressed pre-home dyed muslin. I strongly recommend researching for a tutorial as this is not a feat for the faint of heart. You will find many posts on this on Pinterest. If you have an old printer at home I would use it. I have not had any difficulties with my attempts but I trim every teeny little stray thread from the edges of the freezer paper/muslin before feeding it through the rear tray.

** I also used a legal sized piece of freezer paper and muslin to give me a bit of extra room at the top for the tie. The sweet crocheted chicken is an easy pattern from Etsy. It is no longer available but there are many more like it.

Happy Valentine's decorating!
